Abstract
Ketamine produces a state referred to as "dissociative anesthesia" which is characterized by complete analgesia but only superficial sleep, and intact layngeal and pharyngeal reflexes.
The drug is reported to produce ahigh incidence of mental aberrations and hemodynamic pressor responses in adult anesthesia.
The main clinical use for ketamine is undoubtedly in pediatric anesthesia.
Acute gastric and intestinal dilatation had not been reported following ketamine anesthesia in infants and young children.
Recently we have experienced two cases of acute gastric and intestinal dilatation after pediatatric oral surgery with ketamine anesthesia.
